EAP COUNSELOR

Yellowstone National Park Lodges (Xanterra Parks & Resorts) is looking to fill the seasonal position of Employee Assistance Program Counselor. This position runs from May through September, with flexibility to accommodate qualified candidates scheduling needs.

This position is considered park-wide meaning that traveling around the park is required each week. The EAP is responsible for responding to a variety of employee needs. Primarily this involves scheduling weekly counseling sessions with employee clients, making referrals for outside treatment, providing information related to mental health concerns, as well as being a resource for managers throughout the park.

This position requires someone who is organized and able to work independently. Peer supervision is provided, however professional supervision must be obtained/arranged for by the applicant if not already licensed. Qualified candidates will possess experience with a variety of counseling skills, including substance abuse/dependence, crisis intervention, multicultural issues, group therapy, case management, and abnormal psychology.


Responsibilities:
1. Serve as an on-call and scheduled resource for all Xanterra Parks & Resorts' employees and eligible family members. Assess, diagnose, and build treatment plans for employees who seek EAP assistance. This may involve counseling, short-term problem resolution and/or referral to specialized mental health services. Conduct follow-up services for employees and family members.
2. Consult with supervisors and managers on how to appropriately and effectively handle troubled employees.
3. Provide crisis intervention and consultation for critical cases with the EAP Manager. Offer timely critical incident stress debriefing for employees involved in traumatic events.
4. Maintain comprehensive case documentation in files consistent with Federal and ACA standards concerning ethics and confidentiality
5. Adhere to Company policies pertaining to the EAP, including Drug Free Workplace Act and ADA.

Skills and Knowledge:
1. A strong preference for a Master’s degree in a Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Social Work program.
2. A minimum of 1-3 years experience in a counseling related field.
3. Familiarity with DSM-IV and five-axis diagnosis.
4. Assessment and intervention skills for substance abuse/dependence, mental illness, and critical incidents.
5. Knowledge of legal and professional policies and procedures related to the practice of counseling ethics and confidentiality.
6. Must have valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking appropriate for consulting with all levels of employees, including training management on EAP issues.
8. Computer literacy, including how to conduct Internet searches.
9. Ability to function autonomously and exercise independent judgment.
